Summer Hours

Hey there everybody!

The season is winding down and we just wanted to drop a quick note regarding our summer hours beginning June 1 - September 30, 2011:

Sail Away will be OPEN: Monday - Saturday from 7am - 9pm. 
We will be CLOSED on Sundays.

Sunday closures will allow us some extra time for maintenance and a few other surprises!  We will be posting updates on Facebook.  Keep checking the blogspot as well for news of Sail Away Cafe.

What's New!

It's been a while since our last post and for good reason.  We have a few new things going on at Sail Away Cafe!




Last night we hosted Jazz Musician Maikel Garcia.  It was such a pleasant evening to listen to the saxophone and enjoy a great cup of coffee.  Maikel will continue to play on Thursday evenings from 6-9 for the rest of March and into April.  While Maikel is here we will change up our Happy Hour menu to include Stone Cellars Wines.  Stop in to enjoy a relaxing evening in paradise!




In other news...Sail Away is offering freshly roasted coffee for retail sale!  Over the past few months we've gotten many requests for bagged coffee.  Well, now it is here!  Now you can enjoy coffee in paradise and take a bag of paradise home!  Our coffee is certified organic, freshly roasted and custom blended here in Belize.  The beans are hand selected from premium Arabica grown here in Belize as well as other Central American countries.  The Ancient Mayan Civilizations are the inspiration for sourcing our coffees.



For cigar connoisseurs, we offer BELICENOs!  Beliceno cigars are produced right here in Belize.  They are hand rolled, long leaf, long filler.  No chopped tobacco!  One customer rated the Churchill and 8 out of 10.  10 being his favorite cigar of which I am not familiar.  Other regular smokers have given the Beliceno rave reviews.  The only way to know for sure...stop in and try one for yourself!  Beliceno comes in 5 different styles:  Panatella, Coronita, Robusto, Torpedo and Churchill.

Tea Time!

If you haven't tried our teas yet, you are missing out on a world of flavor!

We don't serve just any tea.  We serve the best!

The first time I came across Mighty Leaf (one of the brands we carry), I was at the Ritz Carlton.  For those who aren't familiar, the Ritz has an entire floor called the Club Floor.  On the Club Floor, at certain times of the day, culinary treats are offered.  Beverages, however, are served all day!

I scanned the selection and didn't find the classic teas I was accustomed to.  The presentation was beautiful and after the first sip I was hooked!  This experience started an obsession with quality teas.

Just like coffee and wine, tea offers up not just a specific flavor, but culture and history as well.

All tea comes from the same plant.  That is of course unless it is herbal tea.  The processes of harvesting, aging, roasting, blending and scenting are what give tea not only it's caffeine content, but it's unique flavor as well.

Evolution



This is the first post for Sail Away Cafe Belize.  Sail Away has been in operation for over a year now and thriving in the heart of San Pedro!

Today is my first day working at Sail Away!  My name is Jennifer Irwin and I am the new owner.  I have been living in San Pedro for over two years now.  When I came to San Pedro, I wanted to start a little coffee shop on the north end of the island.  As time went on, plans were made.  Unfortunately we didn't quite make it open.

Upon departing for the mainland one day, we ended up running into the gentleman who pioneered Sail Away and he had informed us that his business was for sale.  It was the perfect opportunity to fulfill my dream of running a coffee shop in paradise!

Today I felt like I was entering sacred ground.  There are patrons who have been coming here for years.  This is their hang-out, a place of gathering.  Tourists arriving for the first time are able to enjoy a sort of home away from home.

In this entry, I would like to give much respect to my predecessors.  They have truly added to the community.  I can only hope to do the same.  My goal is to add a bit of my dream to what already exists.

To the patrons already frequenting Sail Away Cafe, give me time and I will learn if you like cream or sugar in your coffee and whether you like your ham and provolone panini with or without jalapenos!
